Appliance installation services Windsor ON

Whether you’ve moved into a new home, are looking for an appliance repair or are needing to replace an appliance altogether, in some cases it’s not as easy as plug and play.  Certain devices require specialized and careful appliance electrical wiring performed by your licensed Windsor electrician.  We’re not talking about your microwave or refrigerator or the typical built in appliance installation.  We’re highlighting appliances such as the dishwasher, electric range and washer/dryer, as these require a bit more work and typically not suited for DIYers to tackle.

Dishwasher: The dishwasher electrical hookup - if only if it were as simple as plugging it in and then you’re ready to run a load, but it is unfortunately not.  This is why you need to call your electrical contractor to help assist you in the wiring of the dishwasher. There are two main parts to the dishwasher installation.  The first one involves installing the water and drain lines. Two holes will have to be drilled in the base of the sink cabinet to accommodate these lines, which are relatively short as they are located near the sink.  Next, you need to make sure there is a dedicated 20 amp circuit running from the electrical service panel. Depending on the location of the service panel (usually in the basement), you may need to drill holes in the basement ceiling or kitchen floor to accommodate this connection.

Electric stove: The electric range wiring is also more involved as it requires special circuits.  In both gas and electric stoves, the 120 volt circuit is used to power the timers and the vent fans, along with other ancillary tools on the range.  The electric stove wiring, however, requires a 120/240 volt circuit as the 240 volt portion helps to heat the stovetop heating elements and the oven heating coils.

Electric Dryer: The electric dryer wiring and installation is comparable to the electric range requirements.  A 120/240 volt circuit is also required in this instance as the 120 volt portion provides power to the timer and tumbler, while the 240 volt circuit powers the heater.

For any upgrades involving a 120/240 volt circuit, you need to call your licensed electrical contractor to install a new 240 volt circuit breaker and route the electrical cable through walls to the location of the electric range outlet.
What appliances need a dedicated circuit?  To minimize the chance of tripped breakers, any appliance with a power rating of at least 1,000 watts should have their own dedicated circuit and breaker.  Typical appliances that fall under this category include: ovens, stoves, dishwashers, washers/dryers, and hot tubs. Some devices like computers are sensitive to power fluctuations even if their power rating fall well within the 1,000 limit and may need their own dedicated circuit.  So if a computer malfunction would cause too much of a disruption for your home or business, you’ll want to consider creating a separate circuit for your office devices.
