Home theatre lighting Windsor ON

Picture
Forget driving to the theatre to catch a flick.  Stay in the comfort of your own home and relax in your very own home theatre.  If you’re looking for home theatre lighting ideas, you have a lot of options that are different from other rooms in your home.  Let’s take a look at the types of light fixtures and some considerations when it comes to illuminating your home theatre.

Overhead lighting

The three options are: potlights (or recessed lights), flush mount lights and hanging light fixtures.  The order listed is essentially the order of preference for the ambient light in the home theatre room.  Although pot lights are likely the most expensive out of the three, it is the most hidden and adds the right type of ambiance, especially if you’re adding a dimmer switch option.  Hanging light fixtures are the least attractive and depending on how low they hang, may obstruct the view to the screen.

Wall sconces

A sleek wall sconce creates beautiful accent lighting.  If directed upwards or downwards, it will work really well in the home theatre.  Any light pointed outwards can create uncomfortable glare and reflections on the TV screen.  Furthermore, the wall sconce should be left at a dim level throughout the show or movie so as to avoid washing out the projector’s image.  Take note as well that the electrical box found behind the light fixture should be up to code, so make sure to involve your licensed Windsor electrician in the installment process.  The only thing you should worry about is what style of wall sconce to choose.

Seat-side lighting

Consider adding seat-side lighting to your home theatre.  They come in handy for specific tasks such as getting up to go to the washroom, looking for nearby items, etc.  However, if you have smart home lighting already integrated, table lamps may not be necessary.

Smart home technology

Smart home tech can be seamlessly integrated into your home theatre and may include options such as a smart wall switch or dimmer, smart light bulbs, smart LED strips and smart plugs and power bars.  The technology can be voice activated or connected to a smart hub or wifi.

LED light strips

No other room in the home can benefit as much from LED light strips as the home theatre room.  Note:: no room really NEEDS LED light strips, but it sure adds a cool effect and ambiance. They can be added: underneath seating, behind the projector screen or TV, behind framed movie posters, along the pathway to the restroom or door.  Their use is limited by your own imagination. They’re inexpensive, don’t overheat (so they don’t really create a fire risk) and they’re very versatile as they can be cut to the right dimensions and placed anywhere you want.

Fibre optic lighting

This type of lighting is also placed in the category of “not necessary”, but “nice to have”.  Depending on the layout of your home theatre room and particularly if the ceiling is indented, it can create a very cool ambiance on the ceiling.
